On 14 October, the Barathiye Mandir Temple in Regents Park was found ablaze when devotees went to perform their regular worship.
During the incident, more than 30 statues and articles were ruined. NSW Minister for Multiculturalism denounced the event, saying that it was a direct attack on Australian culture.
“The NSW Government will not tolerate the desecration of items of cultural and religious significance,” he said.
NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley described the vandalism as “a crime against peaceful Australians” and was “Disgusted at the desecration.” A West Sydney Hindu group is now pleading for funds to restore the temple.
